Full Diagnosis

ECM/variable-speed blower has hit its maximum allowed speed or torque limit while trying to reach the CFM the control demanded, but is still short of that target — the motor keeps running, so this is a soft, non-shutdown fault. It sits alongside code 60 (general non-critical blower fault) but is more specific to an airflow shortfall from excessive static pressure, and is far short of code 61 (critical fault, blower cannot run at all). Expect reduced heating/cooling performance and possible nuisance high-limit trips (code 22) if airflow stays restricted.

Clogged or wrong-MERV filter, undersized or poorly designed ductwork, collapsed flex duct, closed or blocked supply/return registers, a dirty blower wheel, dampers left shut after a duct-zone change, or a blower CFM/profile set higher in dip-switch or control setup than the duct system can support. Compare the configured airflow setting against the actual external static pressure reading before assuming a motor fault.

  1. Confirm the exact Rheem model family and furnaces context before acting on a generic code description.
  2. Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since clogged or wrong-MERV filter, undersized or poorly designed ductwork, collapsed flex duct,….
  3. Look for restrictions, iced coils, or dirty heat-transfer surfaces that can mimic a charge problem, and separately confirm compare the configured airflow setting against the actual external static pressure reading….
  4. After the correction, run the system long enough to confirm the furnaces fault does not return under normal load.
