Full Diagnosis

Ignition failure lockout — the control board cycled through its trial-for-ignition attempts and never sensed flame, so it locked out the gas valve as a safety measure. Unlike a 3 Flashes pressure-switch fault (which stops the sequence before ignition is even attempted) or a 5 Flashes fault (flame sensed with the gas valve closed — the opposite problem), this code means the igniter and burners actually tried to fire and simply failed to establish flame. The blower may keep running on cold air during and after the lockout, and the board won't retry ignition until it's reset.

Confirm the manual gas shutoff and furnace gas valve are fully open, and that gas supply pressure is adequate (a low propane tank or a valve closed elsewhere in the line is a common cause). Remove and clean the flame sensor rod of carbon buildup, and check that the igniter glows fully and draws proper current — a cracked or weak igniter can fail to light the burners even with correct gas flow. Check burner ports for rust or debris blocking flame. Once corrected, reset the furnace (thermostat call or power cycle) to clear the lockout and confirm a clean ignition cycle.
