What information should I enter for a diagnosis?

Describe what the equipment does, include readings and units, and start even without an error code.

Enter what you observed, rather than a cause you have not confirmed. You can start without equipment details or an error code.

  1. Add the brand and exact model if you can read them. A nameplate scan can save typing.
  2. Enter the code as shown on the equipment, if there is one.
  3. Describe the operating mode, what starts or stops, and how long it runs.
  4. Include measurements with units and any checks you have already made.
  5. Choose the system type that matches the equipment. Use Unknown if you are unsure, or Other when none fits.

Examples

Too little detailA useful observation
Furnace not workingHeat call starts the inducer and igniter. Burners light, then go out after 4 seconds.
AC not coolingCooling call is active. Indoor blower runs; outdoor fan and compressor do not start.
Unit keeps stoppingHeating runs for 7 minutes, then stops before reaching the setpoint. It restarts after cooling down.

Timing helps choose checks; it does not prove which part failed. Confirm causes with measurements and the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you dictate the symptom, review the text for wrong numbers or units before submitting. Start a new diagnosis shows the entry steps.
