Liquid line temperature sensor fault (open or shorted) — the thermistor on the liquid line has failed, so the board loses its reading of refrigerant temperature at that point in the circuit. This sensor feeds subcooling and demand-defrost calculations, and is distinct from Red 12 (the liquid-line pressure transducer, a separate component monitoring pressure rather than temperature) and Red 6 (the coil sensor, located at the outdoor coil rather than the liquid line). Loss of this input can affect defrost timing and staging accuracy until it's repaired.

Locate the liquid-line temperature sensor (typically clamped to or inserted near the liquid line at the outdoor unit) and check that its connector is fully seated and undamaged.
