Compressor No Start. The board detects a call for compressor operation but no run signal or current draw develops, so it stops attempting to start that compressor and locks out the outdoor unit's cooling or heating capacity until reset. Indoor blower and any electric or fossil-fuel backup heat continue to function normally since this fault is isolated to the compressor circuit. It differs from code 79 (compressor no-pump event), which occurs after the compressor has started and is drawing current but isn't moving refrigerant — 62 is an electrical/mechanical failure to start, while 79 is a refrigerant-circuit failure of a compressor that is technically running. Board retries after 15 minutes, giving time for thermal or pressure conditions that may have caused the no-start to normalize before the next attempt.
Check supply voltage at the compressor terminals during a start attempt, not just at rest. Inspect compressor wiring and contactor operation, including contactor points for pitting or failure to close. Test compressor winding resistance (run, start, common) and compare to specification to rule out an open or shorted winding. Check for a high-pressure lockout condition holding the compressor off. Inspect the inverter drive for fault codes or output failure if this is an inverter-driven compressor. Board retries after 15 minutes; repeated no-start events point to a hard electrical or mechanical failure rather than a transient condition.
