Full Diagnosis
On a Daikin VRV system, code A1 indicates the microprocessor on an individual indoor unit's PCB has detected an internal self-check failure (EEPROM checksum error, faulty relay drive, or a component fault on that unit's control board) and takes that one indoor unit offline while the rest of the branch and other indoor units on the same outdoor system continue operating normally. Because VRV branches many indoor units off a shared refrigerant circuit, isolating A1 to a single unit — rather than a system-wide shutdown — is expected behavior; reseating or swapping that unit's PCB is the usual next step. Distinguish from A9 (electronic expansion valve wiring/coil fault on the same board) and A8 (power-supply-side fault) — A1 is a genuine PCB self-diagnostic failure, not a wiring or sensor issue feeding into it.

Defective indoor unit PCB (failed component or firmware fault), external electrical noise inducing a false self-check trip, loose or corroded connector pins on the PCB, moisture ingress or condensation on the board, incompatible or outdated PCB firmware after a board swap.
Verify Before Replacing Parts
- Confirm the exact Daikin model family and vrv context before acting on a generic code description.
- Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since defective indoor unit PCB (failed component or firmware fault), external electrical noise….
- Look for restrictions, iced coils, or dirty heat-transfer surfaces that can mimic a charge problem, and separately confirm the next candidate on the list.
- After the correction, run the system long enough to confirm the vrv fault does not return under normal load.
