AJ appears when an indoor unit's PCB cannot read or match a valid capacity (horsepower/model) setting, most commonly after a board replacement where the capacity-setting adaptor or jumper wasn't installed, or where a field-set capacity code doesn't correspond to any recognized indoor unit size on that VRV system. The affected unit refuses to run because the outdoor unit's capacity-balancing logic across all connected indoor units depends on every unit correctly declaring its capacity. This differs from A1 (a genuine board self-diagnostic hardware failure) in that AJ is a configuration/setup mismatch rather than a defective component, and is typically resolved by installing the correct capacity adaptor or re-entering field settings rather than replacing parts.
