ED is a general outdoor-unit protection trip that the board raises when one of the outdoor safety protections (such as high pressure, low pressure, or compressor overload) engages without mapping to one of the more specific P-series or E-series codes in this system's fault table. It differs from EB, which is specific to inverter module protection, and from EF, which is reserved for miscellaneous faults outside the defined protection set. Because ED reflects a genuine outdoor-side protection event rather than a sensor or communication issue, the outdoor unit typically shuts down compressor operation until the underlying condition clears and the fault resets.
Check the outdoor unit for more specific P-series protection codes (P0-P8) logged alongside or just before ED, which can narrow down the root cause. Inspect refrigerant charge, condenser coil cleanliness, and outdoor fan operation for anything that would push the system into a protection state. Verify outdoor ambient conditions aren't outside the unit's rated operating range. Check the outdoor PCB and pressure/temperature sensors feeding the protection logic for accuracy.
