Full Diagnosis

F2 trips when the outdoor board measures the compressor drawing current above its rated limit — a direct compressor-current reading. This is distinct from F1, which protects the IPM driver module rather than the compressor itself, and from F23, which checks single-phase current within the compressor circuit as a narrower subset of this same protection; F22, by contrast, monitors the outdoor unit's overall incoming AC current rather than the compressor alone. When F2 trips, the outdoor unit locks out the compressor, stopping cooling/heating for all indoor units served by that outdoor module.

Check refrigerant charge — overcharge, undercharge, or a restriction can all drive compressor current out of range. Inspect the outdoor condenser coil and fan for airflow restriction or a failing fan motor that reduces heat rejection and raises compressor load. Test compressor winding resistance and insulation for signs of a failing compressor. Verify supply voltage is within range, since low voltage causes compressors to draw higher current for the same load.

  2. Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since check refrigerant charge — overcharge, undercharge, or a restriction can all drive compres….
