Full Diagnosis
A3 flags a fault in the indoor unit's drain level control system on a Daikin SkyAir unit — the float switch or drain pump circuit has detected water rising above the safe threshold in the drain pan, and the unit shuts down cooling operation to prevent overflow into the ceiling or wall cavity. Unlike A5, which reacts to heat exchanger temperature extremes, A3 is purely a condensate-handling fault and does not involve the refrigerant circuit. It requires the drain issue to be cleared and typically needs a manual reset at the remote controller once the pan drains.
All Recorded Causes
Clogged or upward-sloping drain line preventing gravity drainage, failed or seized condensate (drain-up) pump, stuck or shorted float switch, disconnected or corroded float switch connector, blocked drain pan strainer, condensate line air lock, excessive condensate from an oversized or high-humidity load.
Verify Before Replacing Parts
- Confirm the exact Daikin model family and skyair context before acting on a generic code description.
- Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since clogged or upward-sloping drain line preventing gravity drainage, failed or seized condens….
- Look for restrictions, iced coils, or dirty heat-transfer surfaces that can mimic a charge problem, and separately confirm the next candidate on the list.
- After the correction, run the system long enough to confirm the skyair fault does not return under normal load.
