E6 signals overcurrent or a locked rotor condition on a standard (non-inverter) compressor motor — the outdoor PCB has detected current draw or a stall pattern consistent with the compressor failing to start or seizing under load, and locks out compressor operation to prevent motor burnout. On inverter-driven SkyAir models this same failure mode is instead reported as E5 (inverter compressor overheat/lock), so E6 is specific to fixed-speed compressor configurations. A closed stop (service) valve is a common non-compressor cause that produces the same symptom.

Compressor mechanically locked or seized, compressor winding failure (open or shorted), outdoor unit control PCB relay or contactor failure, refrigerant service (stop) valve left closed after installation or service, severe overload from high head pressure, low voltage supply preventing successful startup.
