Full Diagnosis
A5 covers two related protection functions on the indoor unit — high-pressure control while in heating mode and freeze-up protection while in cooling mode — both triggered by the indoor coil (heat exchanger) thermistor reading outside its normal operating range. The unit stops the compressor to protect the indoor coil from icing over in cooling or from excessive pressure buildup in heating. It differs from A9, which points to an electronic expansion valve failure rather than a restricted airflow or thermistor reading, though a dirty filter can produce symptoms that mimic both.
All Recorded Causes
Clogged or dirty indoor air filter restricting airflow across the coil, blocked or obstructed indoor coil, low airflow from a failing or misconfigured fan motor, closed or partially closed supply/return grilles, defective indoor heat exchanger thermistor, low refrigerant charge causing coil freeze-up, short cycling.
Verify Before Replacing Parts
- Confirm the exact Daikin model family and skyair context before acting on a generic code description.
- Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since clogged or dirty indoor air filter restricting airflow across the coil, blocked or obstruc….
- Look for restrictions, iced coils, or dirty heat-transfer surfaces that can mimic a charge problem, and separately confirm the next candidate on the list.
- After the correction, run the system long enough to confirm the skyair fault does not return under normal load.
