On a Daikin packaged unit, A9 indicates the indoor-side electronic expansion valve (EEV) circuit — the coil driver output or valve motor itself — is not responding correctly to the indoor PCB's control signal, so the unit locks out to prevent uncontrolled refrigerant flow and improper superheat. The compressor is typically shut down while cooling/heating operation is disabled until the fault is cleared or manually reset. This differs from E9, which flags the outdoor unit's electronic expansion valve coil or its control PCB rather than the indoor EEV assembly.

Disconnected or damaged EEV coil connector at the indoor unit. Open or shorted EEV coil winding. Valve body stuck (mechanically seized) from debris or corrosion. Defective indoor unit PCB EEV driver circuit. Damaged relay cable between PCB and valve coil. Incorrect coil orientation after service work.
Verify Before Replacing Parts
- Confirm the exact Daikin model family and packaged context before acting on a generic code description.
- Verify airflow first, then confirm operating pressures and temperature relationship before adjusting charge, since disconnected or damaged EEV coil connector at the indoor unit.
- Look for restrictions, iced coils, or dirty heat-transfer surfaces that can mimic a charge problem, and separately confirm open or shorted EEV coil winding.
- After the correction, run the system long enough to confirm the packaged fault does not return under normal load.
